{"id":879,"date":"2020-12-28T12:17:04","date_gmt":"2020-12-28T18:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/?p=879"},"modified":"2021-12-06T14:56:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T20:56:04","slug":"week-8-get-ready-stretch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/?p=879","title":{"rendered":"Get ready to win: STRETCH!!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pick your stretch goals.&nbsp; Reach further, stretch higher.&nbsp; Stretch yourself in order to reach your full potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hear or read these words often.&nbsp; I\u2019m pretty sure they\u2019re meant to be inspirational, but honestly, when it comes down to stretching, so many of us aren\u2019t able to \u201ctouch our toes\u201d, much less stretch into a position that makes us uncomfortable, into a position or place that we can\u2019t imagine, or one that might create pain.&nbsp; Why?&nbsp; For what?&nbsp; And if it\u2019s important, how?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a study published in the <em>Harvard Business Review<\/em>, organizations that attempt to issue stretch goals aren\u2019t any more successful than most people.&nbsp; Stretch goals were defined in the article, <a class=\"rank-math-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/01\/the-stretch-goal-paradox\">\u201cThe Stretch Goal Paradox,<\/a>\u201d by Sim Sitkin, Chet Miller and Kelly See, \u201cWe\u2019re not talking about merely challenging goals. We\u2019re talking about management moon shots\u2014goals that appear unattainable given current practices, skills, and knowledge. &nbsp;In the parlance of the business world, these are often referred to as stretch goals\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article describes some interesting case studies and points out incidents where organizations have strived to set \u201cbig, hairy, audacious goals\u201d, thinking they would magically transform their organization and solve their problems.&nbsp; But like many of us who struggle to make our dreams come true and fall flat, the authors found a string of failures in attempting to achieve stretch goals in organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-image-881\">How do you succeed with stretch goals?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, obviously, some people and some organizations DO achieve their dreams and goals. &nbsp;What are the keys to success?&nbsp; The authors suggest that organizations do better with stretch goals when they are strong, not when they are weak.&nbsp; Just like developing your muscles for a physical stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same with your personal stretch goals!&nbsp; Thanks to the Master Key Experience course (#NothingLikeIt), and through Mark Januszewski\u2019s material, it becomes very simple \u2013 define your purpose and the life you want (a Defined Major Purpose, per Napoleon Hill), envision it, then put together a plan of action and follow it daily, checking in weekly to make sure you\u2019re making progress.&nbsp; Slowly, steadily, focused, not like a cold-muscle, painful lurch.&nbsp; Mark encourages us to practice the vision, and fulfill our daily plans every single day, not just once in awhile, and offers hands-on support to make sure we get where we want to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HBR authors had similar advice for their organizations:&nbsp; take small steps and pursue small wins.&nbsp; These amount to big wins later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-9 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-2 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay-900x600.jpg\" alt=\"Stretch goals are part of our nature\" class=\"wp-image-881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay-900x600.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay-945x630.jpg 945w, https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.journeyofaday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/giraffe-2191662_1920-by-Howard-Wilks-Pixabay.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption>Stretching is part of our nature.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-7 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-5 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\">\n<p>So allow yourself to dream and take those daily steps toward it.&nbsp; Recognize that the only thing holding you back is YOU!&nbsp; Whatever your dream it may seem like a stretch now, but, as Og Mandino, in the <em>Greatest Salesman in the World<\/em>, says, \u201cIn truth, <strong>one step<\/strong> at <strong>a<\/strong> time is not too difficult &#8230; I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pick your stretch goals.&nbsp; Reach further, stretch higher.&nbsp; Stretch yourself in order to reach your full potential.
